This workshop has been organized and run by LDEO graduate students each spring since 2013 and remains the only student-focused and student-led, seismology and tectonophysics workshop in the country. Each year, SSW brings together over 50 graduate students to LDEO to present and discuss their research amongst fellow students in a collegial and supportive environment. Participants hail from the US and abroad including students from Canada, Mexico, Turkey, and Botswana with the diversity of attendees continuing to grow each year. Since establishment of the workshop, nearly 300 young scientists have attended the workshop, which serves as an effective learning opportunity and invaluable networking event. In addition to sharing scientific techniques, the workshop features a panel where students can discuss their experiences with various career-building and internship opportunities in the field. The Seismology Student Workshop will embrace a transformative shift in 2024 as it departs from its traditional setting at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and finds a vibrant new home at the University of Washington. |
